OpenAI announces GPT-4, already available in ChatGPT and Bing
The artificial intelligence community is abuzz with the recent release of GPT-4, the latest iteration of the popular language model developed by OpenAI. This new release is expected to revolutionize the field of natural language processing, building on the advancements of its predecessor, GPT-3, which was released just a few years ago.
One of the most significant advantages of GPT-4 is its ability to understand context and produce human-like responses (sometimes with a sense of humor). This is achieved through the use of advanced deep learning techniques and an incredibly large data set, enabling the model to generate text that is more coherent and accurate than ever before. And thanks to its multimodal language model, it can understand and generate text and images, making it capable of handling a wider range of tasks. Additionally, GPT-4 can understand and respond to complex sentences, emotions, and different tones.
Until now, ChatGPT has been based on an older version of GPT, called GPT-3.5. This upgrade should allow it to respond more accurately to certain tasks. “For example, it passes a simulated bar exam with a score around the top 10% of test takers; in contrast, GPT-3.5’s score was around the bottom 10%.” explains OpenAI in its announcement.
OpenAI has announced that it has already partnered with several companies, including Duolingo, Stripe, Khan Academy and Be My Eyes, to integrate GPT-4 into their products. Iceland — the country — has also partnered with OpenAI to use GPT-4 in the preservation effort of the Icelandic language. The new model will be available on ChatGPT Plus and as an API (you can join the waitlist here). Microsoft has also revealed that Bing Chat, the implementation of ChatGPT on Bing, was already based on GPT-4 : “We are happy to confirm that the new Bing is running on GPT-4, which we’ve customized for search. If you’ve used the new Bing preview at any time in the last five weeks, you’ve already experienced an early version of this powerful model. As OpenAI makes updates to GPT-4 and beyond, Bing benefits from those improvements. Along with our own updates based on community feedback, you can be assured that you have the most comprehensive copilot features available.”
While the release of GPT-4 represents a significant advancement in the field of natural language processing, there are still many challenges to overcome. The ethical implications of such powerful language models must be considered, and there is a need for ongoing research and development to ensure that these models are used responsibly and safely, particularly in terms of bias, privacy, and malicious uses. Its multimodal language model and improved capabilities compared to GPT-3 are expected to have a significant impact on a wide range of industries. The integration of GPT-4 into Bing and other products is expected to improve the user experience and position these products as leaders in their respective markets. However, ongoing research and development are necessary to ensure that these models are used ethically and responsibly.
